Research

The Social and Physical Human-Robot Interaction (SaPHaRI) Lab at Case Western Reserve University’s Case School of Engineering has several projects underway—and many opportunities to start new projects as well.

Modular Affect-Sensing Wearable to Promote Social Interactions

We are developing a modular wearable that determines a user’s affective state through various biosignals and encourages nearby external human agents to provide effective, social touch to the wearer through a variety of actuation methods.

Design and Evaluation of a Novel Compliant Gripper with Tactile Sensing for Human-Robot Interaction with the Baxter Robot

Through optical tactile sensing, we are developing a compliant gripper for the Baxter robot that can estimate and maintain approximate force applied as it provides affective touch to a user.
