About Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering

Case Rocket Team

We’ve been at the forefront of making machines move—and fly—since 1887. From developing biologically inspired robots to partnering with NASA to explore fire safety in outer space to developing robotic surgery arms for remote controlled surgery, we’re focused on advancing the field in order to advance human lives.

Our department offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in both aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering. Our MS program in mechanical engineering is also available 100% online, and we also offer an optional specialization in fire science and engineering. Explore all of our degrees now.

Our curriculum focuses on blending a mastery of the fundamentals with creativity, societal awareness and leadership skills to produce leaders who know how to solve the problems that most need our attention.

Our Bachelor of Science in Engineering degrees are both accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, www.abet.org.

Biohybrid Robot
In the important world of research, we tackle everything from the integration of data analytics to the dynamics of rotating machinery, additive manufacturing, nanotechnology, robotics, combustion, heat transfer and more. Recent innovations include a portable device to easily detect sickle cell anemia in low-resource settings, and a biohybrid robot that integrates 3-D-printed parts with a sea slug muscle to produce a cyborg-esque bot that could travel further than traditional robots. Explore all of our research strengths.

Our faculty are renowned in the field, with many of our senior faculty honored as fellows by IEEE, ASME and SME, and many of our junior faculty receiving accolades such as ONAR young investigator and NSF CAREER awards.
