CNC Router

A Laguna CNC machine

Does your project require creating a wood or plastic part with curved cuts, pockets and other three-dimensional features? The computer numerical control (CNC) router at Sears think[box] could be the tool for you.

How to Start

  1. Bring your material and drawings of your project to Sears think[box] and speak with a staff member. They will help you get set up with the equipment, provide instruction, and supervise. Training is not required.
  2. If you would like to get trained and certified to use this equipment without supervision, read the "How to Get Trained and Certified" section on this page.

How to Get Trained and Certified

  1. Start by reviewing the CNC router’s capabilities.
  2. Design your part with your preferred 2D design, 3D modeling, or computer aided design (CAD) software. (Not sure how? We offer a variety of resources so you can learn to use 2D Design and 3D modeling software.)
  3. Export your design as a DXF (.dxf) file. Alternatively, download and proceed with this sample DXF file.
  4. Come to think[box] and generate toolpaths with VCarve on our computers to create an VCarve (.crv) file.
  5. Review the process for setting up and running the machine. We offer clear instructions on how to set up and cut parts with the CNC Router.
  6. Schedule a 120-minute training and certification with think[box] staff.
  7. Once you complete our training and certification, you are free to use our CNC Router without supervision. Our team is always available to help you work safely and effectively, if needed.

Materials and Supplies

The CNC router can cut wood, most plastics, and certain composites. If you’re unsure if your material qualifies, please review the CNC router's capabilities. A range of supplies for use with the CNC Router are also available for purchase at think[box].
