Integrated BS/MS

Chemical engineering students conducting an experiment

Double your opportunities with our combined bachelor’s and master’s degree program

The integrated BS/MS program is intended for highly motivated and qualified undergraduate students who wish to pursue an advanced degree. Students admitted to the program may, in their senior year, take up to nine credits of graduate courses that will count toward both BS and MS requirements.

Students should check with their faculty adviser or department chair about the availability of financial assistance (tuition waivers and/or stipend) for participation in this program.

Qualifications for the BS/MS Program

Interested students should apply to the BS/MS program after the completion of 75 semester hours of coursework and prior to attaining senior status (completion of 90 semester hours). Normally, this means that students will submit applications in the sixth semester of the BS program (usually the spring term of the junior year). Please check with the BS/MS adviser for your department to learn the specific due date for your application.

The Case School of Engineering sets the minimum grade point average for admission to the BS/MS program at 3.0. Individual departments may set a higher minimum G.P.A.

Application Requirements

Applications to the BS/MS program include the following:

  • Completed application form

  • Statement of Objectives

  • Official Case Western Reserve University transcript

  • Three letters of recommendation

  • Approved Program of Study

Courses

The specific program of study must list the courses (research and classes) that will be counted for the MS degree (minimum of 27 credit hours). Up to nine hours of graduate courses can be used to count toward both the MS and the BS requirements. The courses to be double-counted are to be specified on the program of study. The program of study must be approved by the faculty adviser and department chair before being submitted as part of the application.

GRE Exams

Please check with your individual department about requirements for the GRE exam.
