Student Organization Spotlight: Precious Plastic @ CWRU

Precious Plastic @ CWRU

Number of members: 12
Responding member:  Arianna Thornton, President

One sentence description describing what the Precious Plastic @ CWRU does.

Precious Plastic builds recycling machinery (injection molder, extruder, etc.) that we use to recycle plastic collected from around campus.

What are some of the most notable events of your year?

We have general body meetings and build days throughout the year where we plan, build, and use the machinery. Every year, we also go to the World Plastics Expo, which is held at the convention center downtown, to get ideas for our projects and talk to industry experts.

Three words that describe your organization.

Creative, Hands-on, Community

What's your favorite part about being a member?

Getting lots of hands-on experience in Thinkbox! We use almost all of the equipment on the 4th floor and teach all of our new members everything they need to know to help with our projects.

What do you think is the main reason people join your organization?

For the community! We're a smaller group than most engineering organizations on campus, and we have a very tight-knit community because of it.

How can students get involved?

Come to our meetings! We're always happy to have new members, at any time of the year. Our GBs start at 6:00 in the conference room on the 2nd floor of Thinkbox. Feel free to reach out to me (ajt168@case.edu) with any questions!
