Our approach to materials is so sweeping that we have two departments dedicated to advancing the understanding of the matter that makes up the world around us. Our Department of Materials Science and Engineering focuses on metals and ceramics, while our Department of Macromolecular Science—the first stand-alone polymer department of its kind—specializes in plastics. While each department excels in its unique specialty, together under Case Western Reserve’s Materials Branch, they make a formidable engine of discovery across the entire discipline of materials science.
